The institution of slavery transcends all times and geographical locations. This class will begin with the overarching political, social, and psychological characteristics of slavery in a slave culture. Then we shall take a comparative tour of such cultures around the globe. Finally, we'll put American slavery into its place among those cultures reviewing distinctions that marked and continue to mark American history and society.
