The Battle of Bear Paw Mountains

ID : 28947
« back to classes page
The flight of the Nez Perce from their homelands in present-day Oregon toward Canada is among the most romanticized episodes in American history. It also has direct ties to the Bismarck-Mandan area where the captured men, women, and children were held at Fort A. Lincoln as they journeyed under guard to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The Bear Paws Mountain Battlefield in Montana is a well-interpreted national historical site of the National Park Service. This class will provide the history of the Nez Perce exodus, a discussion of the battlefield, and the consequences of it for the Nez Perce people.
