Non-Credit Career Pathway Course
The Cybersecurity Prevention and Countermeasures course covers advanced information about the installation, configuration, and management of firewalls for the defense of enterprise network architecture. You will learn the theory and extended configuration features necessary for setting up traffic handling, advanced content and user identification, quality of service, Global-Protect, monitoring and reporting, and high availability of Next-Generation Firewalls.
This course and Cybersecurity Infrastructure Configuration introduce students to general defense strategies for enterprise security network architecture. Students will also learn about technologies such as App-ID, WildFire, UserID, decryption, and logging procedures used to fortify and supplement the platform approach to enterprise network defense. Finally, students will learn about Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) technologies and services including Zero Trust Operations and Information Technology, SDWAN Instant-ON device integration, Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB), Cloud Secure Web Gateway (CSWG), and Autonomous Digital Experience Mangement (ADEM).

Palo Alto Networks trusted certifications validate your knowledge of the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform and your ability to help prevent successful cyberattacks and safely enable applications.
Certifications are not included with the course.
NICE Work Roles: The Palo Alto Networks Academy Firewall Essentials course aligns with the following National Institute of Cybersecurity Education (NICE) work roles: Security Architect, Enterprise Architect, Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist, Systems Administrator, Systems Security Analyst, Cyber Defense Analyst, and Info Systems Security Manager.
Course Outcomes:
- Describe WildFire deployment options and configure WildFire updates.
- Identify the main components of User-ID and configure user to group names.
- Configure SSL/TLS forward proxy and inbound inspection decryption.
- Monitor threat and traffic information using logs, reports, and the firewall ACC.
- Examine the functionality of Zero Trust, including Zero Trust Operations.
- Explain the features and components of Prisma SD-WAN architecture.
- Analyze the value proposition for implementing SASE Edge Security.
- Evaluate the criteria and processes for securely architecting SASE networks.
- Explain how Cloud Access Security Broker services help identify risks.
- Identify how Next-Gen CASB identifies SaaS/IaaS/web application usage.
- Analyze how Next-Gen CASB implements Machine Learning-Based App-ID.
- Describe how ADEM observes connections and collects endpoint information.
Course Commitment: You will have access to an instructor while you complete this 48-hour
self-paced, online course completed over 12 weeks.
Course Prerequisites: Successful completion of the
Cybersecurity Infrastructure Configuration course or comparable experience. You are expected to have basic Internet and application software skills.

Course Path: Although not required, this course along with
Class 5: Cybersecurity Infrastructure Configuration (For Industry) are building blocks to earn a Palo Alto Networks certification, which is a knowledge-based certification that validates your understanding of Palo Alto Networks NGFW feature set and Palo Alto Networks product portfolio core components.
Refund Policy: Participants must contact the BSC Continuing Education office at least five business days prior to the start of class for a refund at (701) 224-5600. If a participant cancels less than five business days prior to the start of the class, the entire registration fee is forfeited. Full refunds are guaranteed if BSC Continuing Education cancels a course.
A $20.00 processing fee will be deducted from the amount refunded. All approved refunds are made by mail unless paid with a credit card or electronic check in which case the card or account is credited. Please allow three weeks to process refunds. There are no refunds if an online course has been accessed.
