Non-Credit Career Pathway Course

Bismarck State College's Qualified Dental Assisting – Limited Radiology Registrant (QDA-LRR) course offers a comprehensive, self-paced online curriculum designed to prepare students for success as future dental professionals qualified to expose dental radiographs. This course meets the requirements set forth by the North Dakota Board of Dental Examiners (NDBDE). It is a self-paced online learning module for Radiation Health and Safety (RHS).

This program is designed for those already affiliated with a dental office. Eligibility for this course requires employment and sponsorship by a dental office. A minimum age of 18 years old is required.

Course Outline:
  • Radiation physics and biological effects
  • ALARA principles and patient/operator protection
  • Radiographic techniques and positioning
  • Image interpretation and error correction
  • Legal and ethical standards in radiography
The course commitment includes 48 hours of didactic online learning and the submission of radiographic images that meet diagnostic qualifications and demonstrate competency in required skills. Access to the online learning platform will be granted for a period of six months from the date of enrollment, or until the course is completed - whichever occurs first.

Assignments and submissions are graded on a pass/fail. A designated exam at the end of the course requires a competency-based grade. This exam must be passed with a score of 80% or higher. Comprehension and mastery of this material is critical to student success and patient safety.

Tuition includes online access only. Students are responsible for purchasing the book (e-book or hardcopy) from the BSC Bookstore. Students may incur additional expenses based on clinic affiliation requirements. These may include scrubs, shoes, and lab jacket. Please verify with your clinic before purchasing.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students will receive a certificate of completion that may be used as documentation of having completed a board-approved equivalent course. This certificate can be submitted to the NDBDE when applying for licensure as a Qualified Dental Assistant – Limited Radiology Registrant (QDA-LRR) in the state of North Dakota.
